Pilot License Conversion

Answer:

As a general rule, with the exception of private pilots, pilots applicants seeking to convert a foreign licence to a Belize flight crew licence must:

A.

    • Apply in the prescribe form to the department of Civil Aviation by filling a BDCA FORM APL 0001(available on the website)
    • Present valid identification (passport)
    • Present logbook (preferably stamped by one of the last operators you flew for)
    • A photocopy of your license/medical, as well as the actual document to confirm it is indeed an existing file.(Must be Valid)
    • Have passed ICAO required (oral) English language proficiency (ELP) assessment. A minimum of ELP level 4 is required.
    • Verification letter is sent out to the contracting state where the foreign license was issued.

B.

    • Pass a written exam on Belize Validation BCARS aeronautical test
    • Obtain a Belize medical certificate. The initial medical costs is xxx and consists of a filling out a paper with the standard medical questions, urine sample, blood test, ECG ,chest x-ray and basic review by a doctor
    • Must pass a flight test on a certain aircraft and receive the proper paperwork proving you’ve done so.

Exams are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the first and last week of the month.

Exam results are given immediately after the test has finished. Pass for the conversion exam is of 70%

The cost of processing your new license is of $ 250 Bz.

They licensing unit will inform you if you are missing any information or when your new license will be ready for pickup.

How long will it take to get a Belize License:

Verification usually takes from 2 days to 1 month. If information on the pilot is sent prior to his/her arrival to Belize, the process can be faster.

How do I prepare myself for a written test?

Answer:

Passing the required knowledge test on the following knowledge areas:

    1. Rules and regulations relevant to the holder of a commercial pilot license;
    2. Rules of the air, appropriate air traffic control practices and procedures;
    3. Operating limitations of appropriate aircraft and powerplants, relevant operational information from the flight manual or other appropriate document;
    4. Effects of loading and mass distribution on aircraft handling, flight characteristics and performance, mass and balance calculations;
    5. Use and practical application of take-off, landing and other performance data;
    6. General aeronautical knowledge; and Books to study: (BCAR Regulations) available on website

Requirements for the renewal of Commercial Pilot License:

  2. Present logbook( last six months flight activity)
  3. Proficiency check
  4. Fee charged ($50.00bz)
  5. Valid Medical Certificate
